The book belonged to Fred Otis White, whose signature may be found on the fly leaf. White was a founding member of the Soldier's Monument Association. He served on the building committee and helped raise funds to erect the GAR hall. During the Civil War White served as a sergeant in the Thirty-sixth Regiment Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, Company A.
White was elected Mayor of Aurora in 1885~1886 (terms lasted for one year only.)
