USA Leaders

Mission Statement

As USA Leaders, we aspire to make a difference and bring about change that will have a positive impact on the City of Aurora and surrounding communities as a whole.

History

This student group first met in 2005 around the same time Stephen Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” was visiting Aurora University. The students were originally known as Teens of Aurora Changing Tomorrow or “TACT” which later was changed to the Aurora Youth Leadership Council. In 2007, City of Aurora Mayor Thomas J. Weisner, visited local high schools to speak with students about civic engagement, community service involvement and making a positive difference in the city’s neighborhoods. Over 70 students showed an interest. Students have been meeting and participating in a number of projects, activities, and events since the initial start up along with City of Aurora staff supervision. The students chose the name “United Students of Aurora Leaders” or USA Leaders for short.

Meetings

Meetings are generally held once per month on the 3rd Wednesday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at Aurora City Hall on the 5th floor in conference room 5A-B (Water Street Mall Entrance Door). Meetings have also been held at the City of Aurora Phillips Park Visitors Center at Aurora University.
