Bridge Closing Ceremony on ACTV and City Website

Residents and business owners who may have missed the ceremony officially bidding adieu to the Downer Place bridges Feb. 3 can now check it out on cable television and the City’s website.

The “Last Blast on the Bridge” celebrated the history of the City’s oldest bridges with Mayor Tom Weisner recalling some of the historic milestones of the structures along with speeches from other City dignitaries and business leaders. The ceremony also featured an appearance from Aurora Central Catholic High School’s dance team and a short fireworks display.

A replay of the ceremony can be seen on Aurora Community Television (ACTV) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at noon and 8 p.m. ACTV is found on channel 10 for Comcast Cable subscribers and channel 99 for AT&T U-Verse subscribers. It can also be viewed on-demand by visiting the City’s website and clicking on the Downer Place Bridge Construction graphic on the right side of the homepage.

The bridges, which were originally built in 1906, are being torn down and replaced. They are expected to be reopened in November.
