Police Name "Employee of the Month"

A third shift patrol officer who stopped a vehicle driving erratically and ended up confiscating two guns and other proceeds from a burglary has been named the January Employee of the Month at the Aurora Police Department.

Officer Daniel Gray was chosen for his actions on January 7 when he spotted the vehicle crossing the center of the roadway into the oncoming lane of traffic. He turned his squad car around, caught up to the vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop. Upon investigation, he found that the three men inside the vehicle were in possession of a loaded shotgun and rifle as well as ammunition, jewelry, a GPS unit, and other items.

After placing the subjects under arrest, the men were interviewed. It was discovered that they had earlier burglarized a house in unincorporated Aurora where they had stolen the items found in the vehicle. All three suspects, one of whom was a gang member, were charged with felonies.

“Because he was proactive, three burglars were apprehended, stolen property was recovered, and two guns were kept off the streets of Aurora and most likely out of the hands of a street gang”, said Chief of Police Greg Thomas.

Gray has been with the Aurora Police since December, 2007.
