APD Issues Alert Regarding Towing Firm

The Aurora Police Department has confirmed with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) that Buckeye Towing, which did business as A-1 Discount Towing, should not be towing vehicles from private property without the permission of the vehicle owner or operator, effective January 16, 2012.

A-1 Discount Towing, located in Aurora, formerly held a relocating towing license through the ICC and had hundreds of contracts with various firms to tow vehicles that were illegally parked from private lots. For example, if a vehicle was parked in a private lot outside of specified hours set by the lot’s owner such as overnights or weekends, A-1 would tow the vehicle to their business and the vehicle owner would have to pay to retrieve it.

The police department wants citizens to know that if they have a vehicle towed from a lot that is marked with A-1 signage that they should not have to pay to get it back. People finding themselves in this situation should call Aurora Police at 630-256-5000. The department is also asking citizens to call them if they see A-1 towing vehicles from private lots in the City.
