The State of the City video also has been posted on the City’s website along with transcripts in both English and Spanish.

Mayor Weisner spoke to a crowd of 400 people highlighting achievements during the past year including stabilizing the City’s budget in an uncertain economy, the start of construction on RiverEdge Park, a continued reduction in violent crime, the creation of an early childhood program, new businesses that now call Aurora home and the City’s yearlong celebration of its 175th anniversary.

The Mayor also used the speech to outline several proposed initiatives including leasing the City’s fiber network to education, healthcare and business entities; selling the Fred Rodgers Community Center to East Aurora School District 131 to expand its magnet school; and purchasing the old Waubonsee Community College building to create a technology-based skill center for West Aurora School District 129, Indian Prairie School District 204, Oswego Community Unit School District 308 and District 131. These initiatives still require City Council approval before moving forward.
