Aurora Police Name Co-Employees of the Month

The two detectives who spearheaded an investigation that eventually led to a former Aurora man’s murder conviction to be vacated are sharing “Employee of the Month” honors at the Aurora Police Department.

Investigators John Munn and Darrell Moore were lauded for reopening the 2000 case in which Jonathan Moore was found guilty in the murder of a 20 year old Montgomery man.

In April, 2011, Detectives Munn and Moore received information from a confidential informant that Moore, who was 20 years old when he was convicted, was not involved in the shooting. They proceeded to re-interview prior witnesses and located 10 new people who had pertinent information on the case but did not come forward originally.

After conferring with the Kane County State’s Attorney throughout the investigation, Jonathan Moore’s conviction was vacated on March 6, 2012.

“Jonathan Moore’s freedom was due to the diligence and hard work by Investigators Munn and Moore to seek justice for an innocent man”, said Chief of Police Greg Thomas.

Detective Munn has been with the Aurora Police since March, 1998. Detective Moore began his APD career in December, 1996.
