Freudenberg Household Products chooses Aurora as site for new North American headquarters
After searching 10 sites in four states over many months, Freudenberg Household Products, LP (FHP) has selected the City of Aurora as its new North American Headquarters, according to Sherman L. Jenkins, executive director of the Aurora Economic Development Commission (AEDC).
The 525,000-square-foot facility will be constructed to serve as the administrative, manufacturing and distribution center for the company’s entire North American territory. More than 150 new jobs will be created with the opening of the headquarters.
“We are very excited to remain in the State of Illinois and to be a part of the City of Aurora,” said Ron Tillery, president and CEO of FHP. “Mayor Tom Weisner and the Aurora Economic Development Commission have been exceptional throughout this process.”
FHP is the market leader in branded household cleaning tools and products. The company is best known in the United States for its O-Cedar brand and worldwide for its Vileda brand. “Especially during these challenging economic times, we are very fortunate to work with FHP,” said Mayor Tom Weisner. “FHP’s outstanding reputation in the marketplace makes this an extraordinary partnership, and one which we are looking forward to very much.”
FHP will be located in the Prairie Point West Industrial Park at 2188 Diehl Road on Aurora’s east side. “The outstanding transportation networks and talented labor force were very clear factors during the selection process,” said Mike Martinez, director of logistics for FHP.
FHP is working through the permitting process and projecting a third quarter of 2009 grand opening of its headquarters. “The attraction of this major manufacturer involved a collaboration involving the City of Aurora, the State of Illinois’ Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and partners in the brokerage and development community,” said Jenkins. “Richard Daly of Darwin Realty & Development Corporation and Jeff Lanaghan of Industrial Developments International (IDI) worked diligently with us to meet FHP’s relocation needs.”
Aurora, Illinois is located approximately 40 miles west of Chicago. It has a population of approximately 180,000 and is described as a diversified community with a balanced combination of high technology, retail, industrial, service, government and cultural sectors.
The Aurora Economic Development Commission works to promote, attract and retain commercial and industrial development in the City of Aurora. Formed in 1981, the AEDC provides assistance to existing and prospective businesses in the area of community data, land availability, buildings for sale or lease, development assistance and financing.
