Contractor Licensing

Who Should Apply?

Any work done within the Public Right-of-way must be done under this license. General contractors licenses issued by the Building and Permits Division do not cover work in the public right-of-way.

The application covers three classes of excavation:

• General excavation
• Paving excavation
• Sidewalk excavation

An applicant may file for any combination, but must submit a separate bond, application fee, and previous competent record for each class of excavation.

Application is a multi-copy form, and must be filled out in our office during regular hours.

The following items must be attached upon submittal of the application

• One hundred ($100) dollar application fee per contractor type/application
• Original Performance and Maintenance Bond in the amount of twenty thousand ($20,000) dollars. The bond must be valid through February 28th of the following year.
• Certificate of Insurance showing general public liability in the amount of $1,000,000 and workman’s compensation insurance.
