Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board Hosts "Our Story" Fundraising Event

Free Electronics Recycling
Eligible electronics that will be collected include monitors, computers (both PCs and Macs), laptops, televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners, computer accessories (mouses, keyboards and modems), video game consoles, telephones, answering machines, cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, cameras, camcorders, servers and networking equipment, DVD players, stereos, and VCRs. Microwaves are the only kitchen appliance that can be recycled.

Steps to Home Ownership Workshop
The City of Aurora has partnered with the Quad County Urban League and several local businesses to assist people with purchasing their own home at a free seminar.
The Steps to Homeownership Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Quad County Urban League, 1685 N. Farnsworth Ave., Aurora. The program will be offered in both English and Spanish.

Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony
The City will honor those who have fought for our country’s freedom starting with a parade that steps off at 10:15 a.m. at Benton and Water streets. The procession will head north on Broadway Avenue, west on Downer Place and conclude at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall, 23 E. Downer Place. A ceremony honoring local veteran organizations will be held at about 10:30 a.m. at the GAR building and will be followed by a military rifle salute at 11 a.m.

City of Aurora Tree Lighting Ceremony
The City will light its official holiday tree at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd. in downtown Aurora across from the Paramount Theatre. The Miss Merry Christmas/Jack Frost winners and Santa Claus will arrive to the ceremony in style riding an antique fire truck from the Aurora Regional Fire Museum. The children, Santa and Mayor Tom Weisner will then light the tree for the first time this year.
