Hood Suppression Installations

The Aurora Fire Prevention Bureau would like you to be aware of the following requirements for the installation and servicing of Hood Suppression Systems.

Permit and Acceptance

  1. A permit must be obtained prior to installation of hood suppressions.
  2. Specifications and plans for the system must be submitted for review prior to installation.
  3. Installation must be tested prior to use of cooking equipment.
  4. Certificate of Installation must be submitted to the Fire Prevention Bureau before an Acceptance Approval of system will be granted.

Installation

  1. Gas or electric must automatically shut off with activation of system. Manual bypass of automatic shut-off is prohibited.
  2. All parts of system to be easily accessible.
  3. Besides automatic activation, a manual pull at least 10 feet from hood and 4.5 to 5 feet above floor is required.
  4. Fusible links must be replaced at least annually.
  5. System must be maintained in full operation and serviced every six (6) months.
  6. Certificate of inspection will be submitted to the Fire Prevention Bureau after every six (6) month inspection and after any repair or discharge.
