911 Dispatcher - Telecommunications Operator I

The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Operator I in the Police Department.

Duties include the operation of a two-way radio/telephone to dispatch emergency personnel. Enters data, tallies calls, maintains logs of shift activities through use of Computer-Aided Dispatch Systems. Operates LEADS and NCIC terminal, TTD and TTY equipment. Performs general clerical duties.

Must have the ability to complete licensing requirements, speak clearly, work in a stressful environment, and multitask. Required to work rotating shifts during training, then first, second, or third shift including weekends and holidays.

Must be able to type 40 WPM, pass job simulation test, polygraph, psychological, background investigation, and meet physical requirements. Position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. Spanish bilingual skills desired. Job simulation test will be scheduled at time of application.

Starting hourly rate is $21.61/hr. Excellent benefit package includes health, dental and life.

Firefighter

Applications for the position of Fire Fighter will become available on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 8 a.m. and will be accepted at the Human Resources Department until Friday July 27, 2012 at 4 p.m. (We will not be accepting applications until July 16, 2012) There will be a $20 application fee which must be turned in with your completed application. Please pay by money order, certified check or cashier’s check made payable to “City of Aurora”. Personal checks will not be accepted. If you are paying in person, you may pay by cash. Do not send cash through the mail. Mandatory Orientation will be on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at West Aurora High School Auditorium. The written exam will follow on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. at West Aurora High School Student Cafeteria.

Aurora Fire Department 2012 Firefighter Qualifications

You must meet the following qualifications in order to take the entrance examination:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be 20 years of age and less than 34 years of age at time of application. Exception: Applicants having previous full-time employment on an Illinois fire department or with an Illinois fire protection district;
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and less than 35 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid class “D” Illinois driver’s license prior to appointment and at the time of testing must present same, or a valid out-of-state driver’s license of similar classification.
  • Must be able to meet vision requirements at time of appointment. Correctable to 20/20 with both eyes open, field of vision, depth perception, color vision.
  • Must be able to certify as Paramedic (EMT-P) and must also have the ability to obtain certification as EMT-B/D or I.
  • Must have excellent moral character and personal integrity.
  • Must be CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) and Ladder Climb certified by time of written exam. Copy of CPAT & Ladder Climb certification must be turned in on the day of the written exam. Applicants shall submit proof of having successfully completed the CPAT within the past 12 month period prior to the date of the written exam. Testing fee paid for by individual candidates. CPAT and Ladder Climb Certification testing sites are offered at Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy, www.nipsta.org, 2300 Patriot Blvd., Glenview, IL 60026 (847) 998-8090 or Southwest United Fire Districts, www.sufd.org, 7550 Lyman, Darien, IL 60561 (630) 910-2216. Please direct all questions about CPAT and test dates to these sites.
  • There is a non-refundable $20 application fee – please pay by money order, certified check or cashier’s check made out to “City of Aurora”. Personal checks will not be accepted. Do not send cash through the mail.

Starting Monday, July 16, 2012, applications will be accepted at the Human Resources Department. The applications must be returned by Friday, July 27, 2012, by 4:00 p.m. or postmarked by Friday, July 27, 2012. Office hours are Mon.-Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When submitting applications, applicant must include a copy of the applicant’s certified birth certificate (copy of registered certificate, not hospital copy with footprints), copy of driver’s license, and a copy of high school diploma or GED certificate. (Even if you have a college degree).
