Friends of Phillips Park
"The Cure" Tulip
Be a part of "The Cure" and help support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by ordering "The Cure" tulip bulbs from The Friends of Phillips Park. Download and fill out the order form.
Established in 1985 as an advisory committee, the organization’s mission is to preserve, restore and promote the amenities at Phillips Park. In an effort to step-up contributions to benefit both projects and programs at the park and zoo, the group is seeking donations community-wide throughout the year, whether it’s for a holiday gift, a memorial contribution, or an individual or business donation. The Friends of Phillips Park maintains a charitable fund within the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, which is a 501(c)(3) public charity. All contributions to the fund are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Funds raised in 2003 were used to purchase a snowmaking machine for the sledding hill at the Winter Recreation Area, while the 2002 funds covered the purchase of a new pavilion that doubles as the warming shelter. Other improvement projects that the Friends assisted in funding in recent years include the fountains in Mastodon Lake, the “Ray C. Moses Drive” memorial sign, the Volunteer Ambassador cart, the golf course beverage cart, the Sunken Garden’s Millennium design, the restoration of the historic waterfall, the addition of holiday lights and a sound system at the zoo, the “Welcome to Phillips Park” sign, and the children’s zoo coloring book, just to name a few.
The members of Friends also assist annually with the Mastodon Lake Earth Day Clean-Up, the Flag Day Concert, the Member’s Picnic, the Zoolennium Fall Fest and Zoo Holidayze.
If you wish to become a member, become a volunteer, be added to the newsletter mailing list, or just learn more about the organization, call the City of Aurora’s Parks & Recreation Division at (630) 256-3730. Membership is free.
Individuals, who wish to donate, should make checks payable to the Friends of Phillips Park Fund and mail it to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, 111 West Downer Place, Suite 312, Aurora, Illinois 60506-6106. (donation form)
The group meets the 3rd Saturday of the month from March through November (except for April) at 9 a.m. at the Phillips Park Visitors Center & Mastodon Gallery, located at 1000 Moses Drive.
