Garbage and Trash
Note: You can find out when your garbage pickup day is by entering your address in MyPlace.
Garbage should be in a garbage can with handles or in a plastic bag. Each container or bag may not exceed 32 gallons in size or 60 pounds in weight when full. Each container or bag must have a waste sticker attached to it. Overweight, overcapacity, or unstickered containers will not be picked up.
Place garbage at the curb no earlier than 7 p.m. prior to the day of pick up or no later than 6 a.m. on the day of pick up. Containers must be removed by 6 p.m. the day of pick up.
If one of the following holidays falls on your scheduled collection day (visit MyPlace or download the Garbage Pick-up Map for information on your scheduled pick-up day), your collection and all subsequent collections that week will be delayed by one day: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Note that if the holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday; if the holiday falls on Sunday, it is observed on Monday. Your garbage pickup will be affected by the day the holiday is observed on.
Heavy household articles such as furniture, beds, tables, and chairs etc., with a waste sticker attached, will be picked up on regular collection day.
Appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, microwaves, and televisions etc., will be picked up on regular collection day, with a waste sticker attached.
Construction materials from “do-it-yourself” projects (not contracted projects) such as lumber, gutters, and carpeting etc., must be cut into 4 foot lengths and bundled together or placed in approved containers. Each bundle or container cannot exceed 60 pounds and must have a waste sticker attached.
Paint in cans will be collected only if they have been left open for several days prior to collection allowing the paint to harden.
The following items are either prohibited by landfills, or unacceptable for collection: Car parts, dirt, concrete, oil, insecticides, acid, gasoline, paint thinner, anti freeze, pool chemicals, and automotive batteries. If any of these items are mixed in with your garbage, collection will not be made.
Stickers can be purchased at most grocery and hardware stores, at Allied Waste or at City Hall for a cost of $2.60 each. For residents who generate low volumes of waste, 13 gallon preprinted garbage bags that do not require a Waste Sticker can be purchased in rolls of 20 from the same vendors that sell waste stickers.
Optional Cart Program
Residents who generate more than 1 can or bag of waste per week may wish to consider Allied Waste’s optional cart program. Cart users do not need to purchase stickers for their waste. Simply place all your waste into your cart and roll it out to the curb on your pick up day. You pay a monthly fee, based on the size of the cart.
You only need to use a sticker for bulk items or yard waste or any bags or cans of waste outside of your cart.
Cart Fees
Monthly fees for carts are $15 ($180 a year) for a 65-gallon cart (holds 2 bags) or $18.25 a month ($219 a year) for a 95-gallon cart (holds 3 bags).
Call Customer Service at Allied Waste at (630) 892-9294 to arrange for cart service.
