Opening Day
Friday, March 25th marked the opening of the Phillips Park Golf Course and the Fox Valley Golf Club for the 2005 season. Both 18-hole courses are owned and operated by the City of Aurora. For information on rates, or to learn more about the new Annual Card, contact the Phillips Park Golf Course Pro Shop at (630) 499-0670 or the Fox Valley Golf Club Pro Shop at (630) 879-1030.
Mission Statement
To maintain the course’s scheduling, staff, equipment and facilities to provide a great golfing experience at a reasonable price.
Course description
The Phillips Park Golf Course is a facility that has evolved over the past 75 years, culminating with the recent renovation of the golf course in 2001. The 18-hole course can now boast modern features like “USGA” Greens, a computerized irrigation system, multiple tees, larger greens, better overall drainage systems, strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, cart paths and a driving range, as well as a three hole Junior Course. These improvements are in keeping with the mission of the City of Aurora’s Department of Parks & Recreation, to offer recreational opportunities to all abilities and ages.
The Junior Course will allow young golfers the ability to learn the game of golf at a facility specifically designed for their use. The new driving range has both “All Weather Teeing Surface” for inclement weather and a massive grass tee for a more realistic feel. Carefully located greens at 75, 100, 150, 200 and 230 yards provide realistic targets for the golfer sharpening his game.
Most importantly, the golf course is a fun and challenging place to test your skills. Phillips Park Golf Course is now a quality championship caliber golf course. With three sets of tees, the golf course ranges from 4,760 yards to 6,200 yards, providing a wide range of challenge for varying abilities. Depending upon wind conditions, pin placement and selected tees, this golf course can change identities from day to day.
Three dominant landscape features characterize the course: prairie, woodlands and hills. The front nine is more typical of a Midwest prairie and has a distinct “links” flavor. The front nine meanders through a stand of massive oak and hickory woodland, while the back nine rolls up, down and across the hills and through the trees that overlook nearby Mastodon Lake. The prairie, the woodlands and the hills each contribute to the overall atmosphere and wonderful characteristic of the recently renovated course. Whether novice, junior, senior, female or low handicap golfer, Phillips Park Golf Course is a great place to enjoy the game of golf. You can reserve a tee time by calling (630) 499-0670.
