The Emergency Volunteer Service volunteers provide vital support to the Office of Emergency Management. This team provides support to the Aurora Police Department by providing traffic control and scene lighting for vehicle accidents and investigation scenes. Scene lighting is provided for the fire department when requested and supporting the fire department as requested. Maintaining and operation of the Emergency Management Command Support trailer is an important function for the Emergency Management Agency Volunteers. There is also a patrol division that provides patrol on weekend evenings adding additional sets of eyes supporting the police department.
Ground Search & Rescue
The Ground Search and Rescue Team has received specialized training to provide search and rescue for missing persons and / or evidence in the City of Aurora and other jurisdictions when requested. This team trains monthly.
The Weather Team provides coverage for the Aurora Weather Center during watches and warnings that impact the City of Aurora. In some cases weather spotters will be placed to watch for severe weather that may be approaching the city. Team members are requested to attend Storm Spotter classes that are provided by the National Weather Service.
The Communications Team manages and operates the HAM radios and other radios located in the City of Aurora Communications Room. This team supports the Weather Team during activations of the Weather Team during activations and assist in supporting communications during times of emergency. Members of this team are required to have a Basic Ham Radio License.
