Commander John A. “Jack” Fichtel was born and raised in Aurora and is a graduate of East Aurora High School. Jack began his career in law enforcement as an Aurora Police Cadet in 1992 and was appointed as an Aurora Police Officer in 1993. During his career, Jack has held assignments in patrol, field training officers program, traffic crash reconstruction, the Special Response Team, the Special Operations Group, the Office of Professional Standards and the Investigative Deadly Force Team. Fichtel was promoted to sergeant in 2001, lieutenant in 2007 and commander in 2017.
Jack earned his Associates Degree from Waubonsee Community College in 1994 and his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2010. He also graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Executives in State in Local Government program, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University.
Commander Fichtel is currently the commanding officer of the Investigative Services Bureau, which includes, General Assignment Investigations, Domestic Violence Reduction Unit, Evidence Unit, Special Operations Group and School Resource Officers.
