The Domestic Violence Reduction Unit (DVRU) is a section of the General Investigations Unit that deals specifically with crimes as they relate to the Illinois Domestic Violence Act. For a crime to fall under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act there has to be a familial, dating or co-habitation history between the parties involved. Investigators in this section not only investigate these crimes, they assist victims by connecting them with resources from within the department and through external sources. In addition to securing charges against an offender, investigators may assist a victim in getting an Order of Protection or finding safe shelter if needed.
