The Aurora Police Honor Guard was established to represent the men and women of the Aurora Police Department at police funerals, parades and other ceremonial events. The members of the unit receive specialized training to render honors at the various police and community events. It is our intention to assist all officers and their families during their time of need. The Honor Guard promotes honor, professionalism, integrity, and pride through its conduct and image at all times, holding the department’s core values to the highest degree. The Honor Guard is always ready to represent our department under the most difficult circumstances.
Members of the Honor Guard come from all units and divisions of the department. They each understand the importance of their individual role as it relates to the unit and mission, and are willing to devote significant personal time and energy to perfect their skills. To ensure the highest level of professionalism, the Honor Guard trains bi-monthly throughout the year on basic drill and ceremony, rifle details, and the posting of colors. They also attend at least one joint training event annually with the Aurora Police Department Pipes and Drums Unit.
Honor Guard activities include the presentation, posting and retiring of colors, parades, special ceremonies, and most importantly, performing police funeral ceremonies. Down to the smallest detail, each member works diligently to ensure that their uniforms and their performance are perfect for every event. The Honor Guard represents the very best of the Aurora Police Department, serving as ambassadors of law enforcement, presenting a positive and professional image to the public, and constantly striving to make sure that the selfless sacrifice of fallen heroes is never forgotten. Members of the Aurora Police Honor Guard view their mission as a sacred duty to the police department and their profession. Their commitment is evidenced by their impeccable appearance and abilities to perform their duties with honor, pride, and integrity.
