Free Leaf Collection helps with fall yard clean up
Fall leaf collection begins in October, and Aurora residents will once again be able to dispose of their leaves without a sticker as part of the City’s annual leaf collection program. In addition, yard waste and bundled brush collections will also be offered throughout the Fall.
The fall leaf collection will start the week of OCTOBER 16 and last through DECEMBER 8 Leaves must be put into a 30-gallon Kraft paper yard waste bag and placed at the curb on the residents’ regular garbage pickup day by 6 a.m. Garbage stickers will not be required for bags that contain only leaves.
Aurora’s Water & Sewer Maintenance Division asks residents to be sure not to rake leaves or grass into storm drains or along streets because of the possibility of clogging drains.
Yard waste collection BEGAN and continues through DECEMBER 8. Yard waste, such as grass clippings, weeds and brush; and branches and limbs less than a ½ inch in diameter, must be placed in a 30-gallon Kraft paper yard waste bag weighing a maximum of 60 pounds. A waste sticker, available for purchase from most Aurora grocery or hardware stores, must be attached to the paper bags.
Yard waste mixed with garbage or leaves and yard waste, put in a garbage can or plastic bag will not be collected. Residents who miss their pickup should notify Groot, the City’s contracted waste hauler, at 630-892-9294, to make other arrangements.
Residents looking to dispose of tree branches and limbs should cut them down to ½-inch to 4 inches in diameter and 2 to 4 feet in length. They may be placed bundled at the curb without a waste sticker. Branches and limbs must be put in neat, manageable piles with the cut side of the limbs facing the street. Brush that is found in unorganized or unbundled piles will not be collected. If a contractor cuts down branches, it is the responsibility of the contractor to remove and dispose of that material. Bundled brush collection will end NOVEMBER 3rd, 2017
