City of Aurora Public Art: Outdoor Mural Project

The City of Aurora is creating a roster of mural artists for upcoming outdoor mural projects in the city. Portfolios will be accepted on an ongoing basis for future projects. All portfolios must be submitted via online form; no hard copy entries will be accepted. goo.gl/forms/qV1SWsoP2Jdc3BRN2

Deadlines for 2018 Outdoor Mural Project:

  • 6/30/2018: Submit Portfolio
  • 7/8/2018:   Requests for Proposals sent to Artists of Interest
  • 7/29/2018: Proposals Due
  • 8/5/2018:   Notification of Acceptance
  • 9/30/2018: Mural Completed

Experienced painters interested in being considered should upload a resume and 5-10 images of previous work. Previous work should be at least 4’x6’; experienced outdoor muralists will be given preference. References are requested but not required. Artists’ pricing per square foot is requested but not required. The average wall size for projects is roughly 10’x25’.

Artists are eligible regardless of residency. The City of Aurora is invested in providing equal opportunities and neither race, gender, orientation, religion, nor disability will interfere with an artist’s eligibility. As with all Aurora Public Art projects, conscious effort will be made to fairly represent women, people of color, and artists from other marginalized communities.

Artists must submit portfolios by 6/30/2018 to be considered for the 2018 Outdoor Mural Project.

The City of Aurora Public Art Commission will choose and notify Artists of Interest by 7/8/2018.

Artists of Interest will receive a Request for Proposal, including additional information about the project, proposal requirements, and wall dimensions and location. Artists submitting complete proposals by the deadline will be paid a stipend for their design work. Proposals must be received by 7/29/2018.

The artist’s stipend for painting the mural will be calculated based on square footage and the artist’s level of experience.

Artists will be responsible for priming the wall surface with an approved product and applying an approved anti-graffiti sealant.

2018 Murals must be completed by 9/30/2018.

Artists will retain rights to their designs. Artists will permit photography of murals, including use in promotional materials; all reasonable effort will be made to credit the artist.
