City of Lights Financial Empowerment Center (Opening in January 2020)
Aurora is an extremely diverse community—43% Hispanic, 39% White, 10% Black and 7% Asian. Further defining our population, 22.8% of our residents have incomes below the federal poverty level and many have lower-paying jobs. The City of Aurora, understanding the needs of its residents, applied for a planning grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund. We’re excited to announce that we received the grant and will open the City of Lights Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) that will provide free, high-quality, one-on-one financial counseling to low-and moderate-income residents. We have contracted with the Neighbor Project to deliver financial counseling services in the areas of debt reduction, credit repair and savings & budgeting. The services provided through the FEC will go far in helping our families achieve financial stability.
