Aurora STEAM Academy
The Aurora STEAM Academy is a unique learning opportunity where Aurora students will explore the interconnections of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math in a co-curricular, after-school environment.
A partnership between the City of Aurora – led by the City’s IT Department and Youth Services Division – and TinkRworks, a K-8 STEAM education provider focused on transforming learners to innovators, the Aurora STEAM Academy provides is a free educational experience that aims to empower students and close the digital divide.
WHO
Aurora students in 1st – 6th grades
WHEN
Classes are held throughout the year during four sessions (see Sessions tab). Each class has a maximum occupancy of 10 students.
WHERE
Classes are held at six community-based sites: APS Institute, 105 E. Galena Blvd.; Main Baptist Church, 814 E. Galena Blvd.; Eastwood Community Center, 1664 Grove St.; Randall West Community Center, 1373 Monomoy St.; Sacred Heart Church, 125 N. State St.; and the ARM Mobile Tech Center.
HOW
Submit an application for your student to be involved.
*The application portal for each session will open two weeks prior to the starting date for the respective session.
ART ALIVE
1st – 3rd Grades
An interactive, hands-on experience that teaches students to code their own electric art. Students will customize a wooden facade and attach electronics to make it light up, play different sounds and move.
ROVERBOT
4th – 6th Grades
An engaging, critical-thinking experience where students will learn about motors, sensors, LED’s and Adrunio minicomputers by developing a fully-functional customized robot.
