Sullivan Rd From Edgelawn Dr To Randall Rd
The City of Aurora is currently conducting a preliminary engineering study for roadway improvements on Sullivan Road from Edgelawn Drive to east of Randall Road.
Study Background
The City has attained some federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds to reconstruct Sullivan Road. The construction is not yet fully funded. To qualify for the federal funding, the City is preparing a study in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and in accordance with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Bureau of Local Roads & Streets (BLRS) policies and procedures.
Purpose of Project
The purpose of the project is to improve safety at the intersections of Sullivan Road at Randall Road and at Edgelawn Drive, improve capacity at the intersection of Sullivan Road at Randall Road, address future capacity needs at the intersection of Sullivan Road at Edgelawn Drive, improve operations for trucks, complete gaps in the sidewalk system, and improve deteriorated pavements.
Proposed Improvements
The proposed improvement consists of widening and reconstructing Sullivan Road from 2-lanes to 3-lanes from east of Edgelawn Drive to west of Golden Oaks Parkway. The 3-lanes would include one through lane in each direction and a center turn lane. The improvements include channelization and traffic signal modernization at the intersection of Randall Road. Improvements include installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Edgelawn Drive. Sidewalk connectivity and a new shared use path are also part of the proposed improvements.
Schedule
The project is scheduled to begin construction in 2025 at the earliest, pending funding availability, the acquisition of the right-of-way necessary to construct the improvements, and possible staged construction. Installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Edgelawn Drive is not included in the near-term improvements and the City will be monitoring the location to determine when traffic signals will be warranted.
Public Information Meeting
An open house public information meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy, Steve and Jamie Chen Center for Innovation and Inquiry, 1500 Sullivan Road, Aurora, IL, 60506. You may stop by the open house meeting anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. The purpose of the Public Information Meeting is to present the purpose and need for the project, the proposed improvements, findings of the environmental studies, anticipated property impacts, and obtain public input.
