Mayor Richard Irvin will appoint a current Ward 7 resident to fill the vacancy on the Aurora City Council due to the passing of Alderwoman Scheketa Hart-Burns.
By ordinance, the mayor appoints the alderman who fills the vacancy and serves the remainder of the four-year term until the next general municipal election in April 2025.
The appointee must be:
• at least 18 years old
• a registered voter in Ward 7
• a current resident of Ward 7 for at least one year (ward map)
To apply, interested residents must complete the online application below. The application period is open until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 21.
After the application period has closed, Mayor Irvin will review applications and conduct interviews with selected candidates before forwarding his final recommendation to the Aurora City Council.
The City Council will vote on the recommended appointee at the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 8.
