The Planning & Zoning Division is responsible for reviewing all development plans and ensuring their adherence to Aurora’s Zoning Ordinance. The Zoning Ordinance regulates things such as land use, lot size, setbacks, signage, parking, lighting, and landscaping, which help to manage the physical development of our city and the overall well-being of our communities. Our division also develops neighborhood plans, long-range growth strategies, historic preservation guidelines and city-wide sustainability initiatives.
Our mission is to provide guidance and proper follow-through to the public and City representatives in the development and implementation of the City's policies regarding:
Promotion of redevelopment
Proper balance/distribution of land uses
Development Services Team
The Planning & Zoning Division together with the Engineering, Building & Permits, and Economic Development Departments make up the City of Aurora's Development Services Team. This team of representatives meets with residents and developers before plans are submitted to answer any project related questions the petitioner may have and to inform them of our review and approval processes.
