Fox Valley Sports Aviation Association

Mission Statement

Our missions are many. To the local communities we are the "Goodwill Ambassadors" of aviation, hosting some of the best aviation events available to the public. To our members, we offer support and help on their aircraft projects, we provide contacts for flight instruction, host safety seminars, conduct technical seminars, offer adult introductory and Young Eagle rides. Monthly Chapter meetings are held at the Sugar Grove Fire House on the 4th Thursday of the month, except for July, November and December, when they are held on the third Thursday because of AirVenture and the Holidays.

Membership Benefits

As a member of the Fox Valley Sport Aviation Association - EAA Chapter 579 you will receive our newsletter, The New Propwash. This newsletter reports on our current activities and profiles the people that make them happen. You will also be eligible to participate in the many exciting sport aviation activities the are hosted throughout the year by your EAA Chapter. Your fellow Chapter members have the knowledge, equipment and desire to help you with whatever your aviation interests or needs might be.

Scholarships

Each year the Chapter sponsors 2 kids for a week at Air Venture camp at Oshkosh, Wisconsin where they learn not only about flying airplanes, but also how they are constructed and the various opportunities that exist in the aviation industry. Typically, one of the scholarships awarded every year is to a child whose family could not otherwise afford to send them to this camp.

Annual Awards Banquet

Each December, the Chapter holds its annual awards banquet to honor the members who have made significant contributions of time and effort on behalf of the Chapter and the sport aviation movement.

Other Activities

Chapter 579 members also contribute their time and efforts to other worthwhile endeavors, such as:
  • EAA B-17 tours
  • EAA work party weekends
  • FAA safety workshops
  • Fly-outs
  • Oshkosh conventions volunteers
  • Picnics among others
  • Regional technical workshops
The Chapter also conducts either a private or instrument ground school for Chapter members who want to get their Private Pilots certificate or add an Instrument Rating to their ticket. Chapter members who are also aircraft owners typically have informal "breakfast club" fly-outs on Sunday mornings in the summer to airports within an hour's flying time of Aurora that have restaurants on the field. Empty seats are usually available for those members interested in riding along.
