Aurora Police taking back unwanted prescription drugs on October 24 at APD Headquarters
October 20th, 2020 - Do you have old unused prescription drugs laying around in your home? Drop them off this Saturday at the Aurora Police Department during the National Drug Take Back Event.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Aurora Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to Aurora Police Headquarters at 1200 East Indian Trail in Aurora. (We cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Aurora Police Statement regarding online video that appears to resemble Timmothy Pitzen
August 14th, 2020 - The Aurora Police Department's Investigations Division has received numerous telephone calls and social media messages regarding an online video that appears to resemble missing boy Timmothy Pitzen. The video, posted on YouTube, shows a boy in front of colored backdrop singing along to the song Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.

Unemployment Debit Card Scam Alert
July 23rd, 2020 - The Aurora Police Department has received multiple reports from Aurora residents who have received a debit card for unemployment claims they did not file. Most of these reports involve a debit card issued to the victim from KeyBank via the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).

Fake Check Scam Alert
July 21st, 2020 - The Aurora Police Department is issuing a scam alert regarding subjects using fake checks to purchase items offered for sale using the various online sales applications (OfferUp, Craigslist, Marketplace).

Community Alert: Battery Incidents around Phillips Park
June 22nd, 2020 - The Aurora Police Department is alerting the community about two recent battery incidents in the area of Phillips Park in Aurora. In both incidents, the male offender was riding a bicycle when he approached a female jogger and slapped them on their buttocks as they were running. The offender then fled the area on his bicycle.

Aurora Police release dash camera video and narrative after traffic stop leads to two arrests
June 14, 2020 - Over the past 24 hours, a 2 minute and 38 second video has been widely posted on social media of an Aurora Police traffic stop that occurred on Saturday, June 13th on the city’s east side. The video posted on social media only shows a short portion of the traffic stop and doesn’t provide any information about what happened. Unfortunately, people have rushed to judge the incident without having all the facts. In an effort to tell the entire story, the Aurora Police Department is releasing a narrative of the incident and the dash camera video of what happened.

A Letter to the Community from Chief Kristen Ziman
June 11, 2020 - A message to the Aurora Community from Chief Kristen Ziman: Since the incident in Minneapolis, I have received many emails, inbox messages, and phone calls from the community members and organizations asking questions about our policies and procedures. The questions and demands that I have received are centered around the use of force, training, and discipline -- among other topics. Last night we released an infographic to be transparent and let everyone know in the community know where we stand as a department. But, we still have more work to do.
