[ARCHIVED] Chicago Alderman Visits Aurora

Mayor Richard C. Irvin and Deputy Mayor Chuck Nelson welcomed Chicago’s 36th Ward Alderman Gilbert Villegas to Aurora on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Villegas has been keeping up with developments in Aurora since Irvin took office last year and made the drive out west to see things first hand and to discuss future collaborations. The three had a productive and lively meeting about Aurora initiatives and some of Villegas’ initiatives in Chicago.

Alderman Villegas currently serves as the Chairman of both the Chicago City Council’s Latino and Veteran Caucuses. In these roles, he has ensured that both communities are represented within the City through employment and contractual opportunities. Since being elected in 2015 to the Chicago’s City Council, Alderman Villegas has introduced and passed legislation that focuses on providing opportunities for Minority, Women and Veteran-Owned businesses. Most recently, Alderman Villegas led the charge to ensure that with the passage of the $8.5 billion dollar O’Hare modernization plan included an Oversight Commission that combines the efforts of the Latino Caucus and Black Caucus to ensure hiring practices represent the diversity of Chicago.

Like Mayor Irvin, Villegas served our country during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is a proud member of the United States Marines.
