[ARCHIVED] Mayor's Statement: East Aurora Negotiations

Statement EA

I am honored to have been invited to speak with the East Aurora senior class earlier this week. It’s always great to return to my alma mater and connect with the current generation of Tomcats. This was my fifth visit to East Aurora School District 131 since the start of the new school year, including visits to Hermes, Johnson and Brady Elementary Schools and the annual staff kick-off celebration. I always leave energized and empowered in knowing OUR CHILDREN MATTER MOST.

As East Aurora's school board and union return to the negotiating table, I encourage both sides to continue moving forward for the sake of our children. Acknowledging the joint efforts thus far in the process, the City of Aurora remains hopeful for a positive outcome. Aurora is home to multiple school districts and private/parochial schools, and what happens at one will have an impact on the entire community.

East Aurora School District 131 has hardworking faculty, staff and leaders in each school and district-wide. As a proud product of the district, I know this for sure. It is evident during each school visit and throughout the community.

When we do what is fair and equitable for our educators, our children and families will always win. That is what matters most.

Mayor Richard C. Irvin

City of Aurora, Illinois
