[ARCHIVED] City Seeks Next Little Miss Aurora and Little Mr. Aurora

2019 Little Mr and Miss Aurora (1)

The City of Aurora is seeking the next young ambassadors to represent the City of Lights as the 2019 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora.

As the current Little Mr. Aurora Jeremiah Smith-Jones and Little Miss Aurora Sienna Flores prepare to retire their crowns, the registration process is now open for their successors.

Formerly Miss Merry Christmas and Jack Frost, the annual competition transitioned into the Little Mr. and Little Miss Aurora last year, providing the winners a platform to represent the youth of Aurora throughout the year.

The contest is open to students in elementary school who live in Aurora and are comfortable in front of an audience.

Parents can enter their child by completing an online nomination form at deadline to register is 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

New this year is the addition of either a student-generated short essay or student-focused video addressing the topic: Why I should be the next Little Mr. or Little Miss Aurora.

Essays of at least one paragraph can be uploaded online via the application. Videos of a minute or less can be submitted via the online application or emailed to [email protected].

Videos can also be recorded at Aurora Community Television (ACTV) on Thursday November 1 (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.), Saturday, November 3 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and Tuesday, November 6 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.). ACTV is located at 5 E. Downer Place – Suite H on the first floor of the parking deck on Stolp Ave. and Downer Place.

From the nominations, a committee will select six boys and six girls as finalists. Finalists will be announced to the public on Thursday, November 8. All finalists will be on the official Winter Lights Court in the Winter Lights Parade.

The 2019 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora will be crowned from among the finalists in a special ceremony during the Aurora City Council meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.

The 2019 Little Mr. Aurora and Little Miss Aurora will lead the City of Aurora's Winter Lights Parade and assist in lighting Aurora's official Christmas tree during the Winter Lights celebration on Friday, Nov. 16, in downtown Aurora. The young leaders will serve as ambassadors and represent the youth of Aurora at parades and events throughout the year.
