As the snow continues to fall, Aurora remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. tonight.
The Aurora Snow Team has had full continuous operations on all snow routes throughout the night - with a focus and priority on primary roadways and major thoroughfares. Because of the rate and intensity of the snow, plowed roads have become quickly covered again. If travel is necessary, motorists should use extreme caution. With additional assistance from local contractors, residential street operations will commence toward the end of the snow event. The area will then enter a frigid cold streak with wind chill temperatures falling as low as -55 degrees at points throughout the week.
Remember:
1. Limit driving - If you must drive, reduce speed & keep a safe distance from plows
2. Limit your time outside – wear hats and gloves if you must go out
3. No parking on City streets and alleys
4. Check on elderly & disabled family, friends and neighbors
5. Keep pets inside or make very brief trips outside
6. Do not shovel snow into the street
7. Help keep fire hydrants clear of snow
8. Do not leave locked or unlocked running vehicles unattended
9. A list of Warming Centers is available at aurora-il.org
10. All public school districts and most private and parochial schools are closed today. Check with your respective school for more information.
STAY SAFE, AURORA!
