On Thursday, February 7, Mayor Irvin and the City of Aurora presented Awards of Excellence to middle school student-athletes during the City of Lights Middle School Championship Awards for fall and winter sports. More than 200 people packed the room to cheer on the champs:

• Annunciation: 8th Grade Volleyball Champions*
• Aurora Christian: Football Champions
• Cowherd Middle School: 8th Grade Boys Basketball Champions*
• Herget Middle School: 7th Grade Boys Basketball Champions
• Herget Middle School: Boys Cross County Champions*
• Herget Middle School: Cheerleading Champions
• Herget Middle School: Girls Cross Country Champions*
• Jewel Middle School: Wrestling Champions
• St. Rita: 7th Grade Volleyball Champions
• Waldo Middle School: Soccer Champions 

*These teams were unable to be present due to a conflict in athletic schedules. They will be presented awards at their schools.
