The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area, effective from 4 p.m. today, Friday, January 17 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 18.
Snow is expected to begin in the early evening and continue throughout the night. The full Aurora Snow Team will be deployed and maintain a regular interval of salting and plowing as necessary during the weather event.
Snowfall is expected to be moderate to heavy at the onset, with rates of up to one inch per hour. Nearly all of the snow will fall by midnight, with the snow changing to sleet and freezing rain after midnight. Snow, sleet and ice accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected.
Hazardous driving conditions should be expected. Use extra caution if you must travel during the advisory period.
