In an effort to provide additional information to the community, the City’s Sustainable Aurora Advisory Board is hosting a public open house for Aurora residents to discuss the new Municipal Electrical Aggregation program.  

The Electrical Aggregation Open House will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26 at the Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave. 

“We want to provide residents the opportunity to further understand the program,” said Alex Minnella, a City planner and Sustainable Aurora staff liaison. 

The City of Aurora has resumed its Municipal Electrical Aggregation Program, which features a 100% green energy for residents and small businesses who have not previously selected another power supplier. The program is a partnership with Progressive Energy Group and Eligo Energy. 

Residents and small businesses have received letters with information about the program and options to opt-in or opt-out of the service. While some response deadlines may have passed, residents and businesses are still able to choose a different option after having concerns addressed and learning more about the overall benefits during the open house. 

English and Spanish speaking representatives from Progressive Energy Group, Eligo Energy and the City of Aurora will be available at the open house to discuss the program and to address any questions and concerns.

“The City of Aurora has a history of sustainability-conscious thinking,” said Minnella. “We ran aggregation programs from 2012 to 2016 and when they ended, the City continued to look for an opportunity to restart the popular initiative.”

The Sustainable Aurora Advisory Board was established in August 2009 to assist the Mayor and City Council in identifying the highest priorities for city government and citizens to achieve sustainable management of natural resources and make recommendations for programs or actions that support the City’s Sustainability Plan.
