AURORA CONFIRMS FIRST COVID-19 DEATH, THREE POSITIVE CASES

AURORA, ILLINOIS – The City of Aurora has confirmed, through the Kane County Health Department, the unfortunate first death due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

A male in his 90’s succumbed to COVID-19 complications yesterday after being diagnosed just two days prior.

“This is heartbreaking news for the family and for our community,” said Mayor Richard C. Irvin. “We extended our condolences and prayers to his family during this time of bereavement.”

Aurora has three other positives cases, which were confirmed over the weekend, including a woman in her 20s, a woman in her 30s and a woman in her 50s.  Confirmations are provided to the City by the local health departments and no further details are available for release.

“We’ve been preparing for the inevitable news that COVID-19 is here and spreading,” said Mayor Irvin. “This weekend brought us news of confirmed cases, including residents and one of our APD supervisors, and the sad passing of one of our senior citizens. This is real, and we must all continue to do our part to stop the spread. ”

Confirmed cases and deaths in Illinois continue to grow each day, with the most recent report of 1,535 confirmed cases and 16 deaths in the state.

“These men and women represent families, communities and friendship groups,” said Illinois Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton. “Their lives mattered. Prayers of comfort to those that mourn that loss.”
