[ARCHIVED] Farmers Market Opens Saturday, June 27

Farmers Market Opening Twitter

Fresh produce and face masks will be the norm on Saturday mornings in downtown Aurora.

The Aurora Farmers Market opens for its 108 th season on Saturday, June 27. Returning to Water Street Square, 65 S. Water Street, the market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. each Saturday.

Familiar farmers and favorite food vendors remain as staples of the oldest farmers market in the state that will also see new operational changes due to COVID-19 restrictions, including vendors and visitors wearing mandatory face coverings while onsite and hand sanitizer at each booth.

“While the market may look different, its core and quality remain the same,” said Mayor Richard C. Irvin. "Visitors can still obtain fresh fruits, vegetables and food while supporting local businesses and area farmers on a quick visit to downtown Aurora.”

Quick is an operative word as the market transitions this year from a weekly gathering space to an in-and-out shopping experience, with an increased focus on the health and safety of all participants.

To aid in this endeavor, there is only one designated entry point and one exit point to the market. Booths will be staggered to ensure adequate space for social distancing while shopping and waiting in line. Vendors will be required to follow state guidelines for transactions at farmers markets, including transporting products in containers that can be sanitized, using no-contact payment methods as much as possible and displaying market signage as assigned.  Signage can include social distancing markers and new procedures specific to the Aurora Farmers Market.

Visitors are reminded to remain home if sick, to maintain social distancing while shopping, to not touch produce or products at vendor booths and to wash all purchased products at home.

“We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the heart of downtown Aurora for the season,” said Market Manager Karla Thomas. “With everyone doing their part, the Aurora Farmers Market will continue to be just as great for season 108.”

The Aurora Farmers Market will run every Saturday through October 17, with the exception of Saturday, July 4.
