In collaboration with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, the City of Aurora will feed 1,000 families next week.
The 8th free communitywide Pop-Up Food Pantry opens at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 29, at Phillips Park, 1000 Ray Moses Drive.
Provided through the federal Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), the free food distribution will include boxes of fresh and quality meat, dairy, and produce.
No identification is necessary to receive food. Lines form early for the drive-thru, first-come, first-served event.
“While we see the light at the end of this Covid tunnel, the reality is we are still in the tunnel,” said Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin. “Food insecurity has been a major concern throughout the pandemic, and we’ve collaborated with our partners to provide meals to more than 11,000 families this past year. With the conclusion of utility shut-off moratoriums happening at the end of the month, families will face a resumed financial burden. Our hope is the pop-up pantries can help ease that burden by putting fresh food on the table for free.”
The City plans to continue communitywide monthly pop-up pantries through the summer.
