The Aurora Police Department have arrested and charged a man who was taken into custody following a shooting.
At approximately 4:21PM on Thursday, Aurora's 911 Telecommunications Center received a call of a person shot in the 1000 block of N. Lake Street. When officers arrived on scene, a gunshot victim was located in a nearby lot suffering a gunshot wound to their abdomen and arm. While this incident was occurring, an off-duty Illinois State Police Officer was in the area and observed the offender in the shooting flee the area in a vehicle. The ISP Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle resulting in the offender fleeing on foot. In a combined effort with the Illinois State Police, Aurora Police Department’s Special Operation Group, and Aurora Police Department’s Bureau of Neighborhood Policing, the offender was taken into custody after a foot pursuit.
Detectives and Evidence Technicians from the Aurora Police Department's Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene and began investigating the specific circumstances of the incident. In addition, officers and detectives conducted a canvass of the area to collect potential information from witnesses to assist with the investigation.
During the course of the preliminary investigation, detectives determined the individual taken into custody was involved in an altercation with the victim when the offender pulled a firearm out shooting the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital and later flown to a Chicago hospital being listed in critical condition.
Detectives presented the facts and evidence of the investigation to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following felony charges against Byron Frazier, 30, of the 4000 block of N Lawndale Avenue, Chicago, Illinois:
- 1 count of Attempted Murder
- 1 count of Armed Habitual
- 2 counts of Armed Violence
- 1 count of Aggravated Battery with a firearm
- 1 count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
- 1 count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
Charges are not proof of guilt. The defendants listed in this release are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial, at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
