The City of Aurora, in cooperation with ComEd, will observe Arbor Day on Friday, April 28, 2017, with tree planting ceremonies at five different schools - the largest amount in one year - across Aurora.

 On Friday, April 28, Mayor Robert J. O'Connor will join students, teachers and school officials to speak about the significance of trees in our community and to plant additional trees on the grounds of Jefferson Middle School, Holy Angels School, Cowherd Middle School, Fischer Middle School and The Wheatlands Elementary.

"One of the things I enjoy most is getting out and visiting our schools," said Mayor Robert J. O'Connor. "To be able to connect with our children and discuss the importance of our environment is especially important."

Each year, ComEd joins the City of Aurora at various schools on the Arbor Day schedule to demonstrate the importance of trees and tree safety to the students in attendance.

"ComEd understands that trees and youth are so valuable to our communities," said Nick Day, vegetation program manager for ComEd. "We just enjoy getting involved and demonstrating to young people the value of planting the right tree in the right place, and getting them thinking about the ways in which our built environment from trees to power lines all work together."

Following the tree plantings, City crews will also distribute saplings to students that they can plant at home.
