The Aurora Public Arts Commission, in collaboration with artist Lewis Achenbach, presents its annual Jazz Occurrence Art Exhibition.
The stunning musically-motivated works of art of 25 local and regional visual artists will be on display at the Aurora Public Arts Commission, 20 E. Downer Pl., from Friday, May 5 through Saturday, July 29.
The grand opening of the exhibit will feature a special evening of live jazz at the Jazz Occurrence 2017 UNFEST on Friday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aurora Public Arts Commission.
This unforgettable night of music and improvisational art is headlined by celebrated jazz artists Cameron Pfiffner, Jim Baker, Brian Sandstrom and Tim Daisy.
Pfiffner has worked on the jazz scene in Chicago for 30 years and currently leads the 11-piece ensemble Marco Polo. Pianist Jim Baker has played around the world and has a solo recording titled More Questions than Answers. Sandstrom's upright bass playing has scored him gigs next to some of the most notable names in the industry and Tim Daisy, who is a drummer and composer, owns Relay Records.
These titans of the Chicago jazz scene will be visually accompanied by artist Lewis Achenbach who will paint in real-time on canvasses placed around the band as they play throughout the evening.
"We will capture the frequency of the room through form and color and create an environment of complete freedom," Achenbach said.
Light hor d'oeuvres will be served during the reception and admission is free.
In addition to Achenbach, the Jazz Occurrence Art Exhibition features another 24 local and regional visual artists: Walter Arnold, Bill Austin, Renee Baker, Keri Borkowicz, Fawn Clarke Peterson, Donnell Collins, Joe Gagnepain, Betty Heredia, Cheryl Holz, Jesse Howard, Preston Jackson, Jim Jenkins, Steve Lowery, Irene Lamb O'Neill, Cameron Pfiffner, E.
