Aurora has done a really great job embracing the A in STEAM (Art). The Paramount, RiverEdge, First Fridays, the new arts center planned for the old Waubonsee building, etc. Our art and culture is certainly second to none.
I would like to see us also become a technology hub second to none. The City of Lights was once a recognized pioneer in technology, and can be once again. We have SciTech, IMSA and their new IN2 innovation center, OnLight Aurora's community fiber ISP, premier datacenters CyrusOne and ByteGrid, Support Companies LLC in the old Library building, ALDI's national IT headquarters, and now a major Amazon presence as well.
Let's continue to expand on these, and promote them, and make Aurora a highly sought after destination for learning, innovating, and operating in the STEM space.

Aurora should forbid all open outdoor burning, including fire pits, the smoke from any outdoor burning decreases the quality of life in Aurora. It is absolutely impossible to enforce the current laws on fire pits. People burn garbage and yard waste and there is no way to tell from which yard the smell is coming from. Please note that I am not talking about cooking out on a barbeque, that does not cause the heavy wood and garbage smoke that lingers and smolders like fire pits do. Often I cannot open my windows to bring in fresh air. It is too smoky. I can call the police about loud music and people can be warned or ticketed. That is noise pollution but it can be stopped right away. Fill my house with noise or music – the city forbids it. Fill my house with wood and garbage smoke – the city allows it! What’s wrong with those priorities? I do not understand why the right to pollute the air, decreasing the quality of life in Aurora, supersedes the right to breathe clean air.

Time for a cleanup Aurora. If this is the city of lights, well we better do a better job and show our visitors.

I have read that nationally, and heard locally, that finding affordable housing is difficult. This has also be my experience. Perhaps we can assist by making it easier to buy a home by providing resources to those interested in co-buying so they convert homes to 2-units. My husband and I and my sister co-bought a home in Aurora almost 2 years ago. Thankfully, we were able to find a 2-unit home with a monthly mortgage under $900--even though there weren't many options. I want more people to have the opportunity of a low mortgage. Supporting co-buying through legal workshops and perhaps grants could allow more people to buy homes without building new properties. Please share your opinions and experiences; I have heard little about others' experiences co-buying homes, but it was exactly what we needed.

Create a program where people can drop off full Sharps containers at a centrally located municipality building within the city, whether that be a government building like city hall, fire dept, police station, etc. even if they only hold collection days once or twice a month, this would give people who are diabetics or use other injection based medications.
