    PARTICIPATION IN OFFICIAL CITY OF AURORA PARADES IS BY APPLICATION ONLY AND WILL BE EITHER APPOVED OR DENINED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CITY OF AURORA'S COMMUNITY EVENTS DIVISION. ALL APPLICATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO REVIEW AND THE CITY OF AURORA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT OR MODIFY ANY APPLICATION THAT DOES NOT PROMOTE AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF RESPECT AND HONOR.

  7. PLEASE NOTE: All parade participants are reminded of the remembrance and patriotic themes of the parades. Campaign or political displays, other than those necessary to identify the dignitary, elected official or candidate, are strictly prohibited, as is the distribution of any and all campaign, promotional, advertising, and any printed materials of any kind. The parades are not a platform for political, religious or social issues.
  8. Please include the total number of people in your unit. NOTE: Please ensure that your group is dressed appropriately and stays hydrated!
  9. Please include the total number of vehicles in your unit. NOTE: No more than TWO vehicles per unit.
  10. Please provide a description of the vehicle(s) and/or float in your unit. NOTE: All parade vehicles are required to be in safe, road worthy condition, fully insured and operate in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
  11. If your unit will have music or sound of any kind, please submit a complete description with song titles and artists. NOTE: All music MUST be family friendly and pre-approved by the City of Aurora's Community Events Division.

  12. If none, please include "NONE" as your answer. 

  13. If your unit will include crowd giveaways, please describe what they will be. NOTE: NO PAPER MATERIALS OF ANY KIND are allowed to be given away. All giveaways MUST be pre-approved by the City of Aurora's Community Events Division.

  14. Please inform us of any special considerations your unit might have.
  15. IN 50 WORDS OR LESS, please include what you would like to have announced about your unit during the parade(s). You might want to include activities, awards, special projects, names of group members, ranks, titles, and honors of specific individuals with whom you would like recognized.

  16. Insurance:

    If approved to participate in any City of Aurora Parade, your group must provide proof of a comprehensive general liability insurance policy for protection against damages in the event an injury or mishap occurs. The City of Aurora, 44 East Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60505, must be named on the Certificate of Insurance as primary, non-contributory additional insured listing the Memorial and/or Independence Day Parade(s) name, location, dates and times. The Certificate of Insurance must also include the following minimum limits of insurance coverage: $1,000,000 per occurrence; $2,000,000 aggregate coverage for general liability.

  17. *PLEASE NOTE

    A certificate of insurance MUST be submitted at least two weeks prior to the Parade(s) that your organization plans to partcipate in. Failure to do so will result in the inability to participate in the City of Aurora's Memorial Day and/or Fourth of July Parade(s).

  18. Hold Harmless and Indemnification:
    Parade unit applicant for itself, and all participants therein, agree that neither the City of Aurora nor any public or private property owner whose property is utilized for the Parade, shall be liable for injury or damage to the property of the Applicant, it’s employees, invitees, customers, or any other person in or around the Applicant’s parade unit, regardless of the cause or source of the injury or damage. The Applicant further agrees that neither the City of Aurora, Illinois nor any other public or private owner, whose property is utilized for the event, shall be liable for any damages arising directly or indirectly from any act or omission of event sponsors or any customer at the event and does hereby agree to waive any and all claims or causes of action for damages, losses, or expenses against the City of Aurora, its agents, public officials, officers, employees and authorized volunteers. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Applicant shall indemnify, keep and save harmless the City of Aurora, Illinois and its agents, officers and employees and any other public or private property owner whose property is utilized for the event, against all injuries, deaths, losses, damages, claims, suits, liabilities, judgments, costs and expenses, which arise directly or indirectly from any negligence or reckless or willful misconduct of the Applicant, its participants, employees or agents. The Applicant shall pay, all its own expenses, appear, defend and pay all charges of attorneys and all costs and other expenses arising there from or incurred in connection therewith, If any judgment shall be rendered against the City of Aurora Illinois or another property owner in such action, the Applicant shall, at its own expense, satisfy and discharge the same. I/We hereby affirm that I/we have read and understand the Parade Rules and Regulations and the Hold Harmless and Indemnification and agree to the terms expressed therein. I/we agree to abide by all terms and conditions set forth by the City of Aurora and understand that failure to comply with set rules and regulations will result in removal from the parade and possible denial of future participation. I certify that I am an authorized representative of the parade unit and that I have made all participants as well as all parents and guardians of participants aware of the execution of this release and the rules and regulations. I certify that the responses to the statements are true.

  20. Parade Rules and Regulations:

    Units must display a banner and/or sign identifying them.


    Units must stay in their assigned order, unless otherwise directed by a Parade Official. Parades are forward-moving, and there is to be NO STOPPING OF ANY UNITS ANYWHERE.


    All units with live animals are responsible for immediately cleaning up after their animals.


    All units must maintain an appropriate space, 2 car lengths, between themselves and the next unit, spacing should not exceed over 3 car lengths.


    Any unit, whose participants argue with, use foul language or refuse to follow the request of a Parade Official will be removed from the lineup immediately.


    All general units will be limited to no more than 3 vehicles. Elected Officials are restricted to one vehicle. Political Affiliates and or Political Groups are restricted to one vehicle combined. Car clubs & motorcycle clubs are limited to no more than 8 vehicles. (If more than the appropriate number of vehicles attend, only the first appropriate number will be allowed to participate.)


    Vehicles must follow a straight course, in a cautious and safe manner with no quick starts, stops, peeling of rubber, swerving back and forth and no reckless driving of any kind.


    No person(s) shall ride on hood, roof, trunk, door frames, or any portion of any vehicles in an inappropriate manner at any time as well as no jumping on or off of any vehicles. Traffic citations will be issued by APD for violation of any municipal ordinance or State vehicle code.


    There shall be no throwing of any giveaway items from vehicles to spectators. ALL giveaway items must be approved by the City of Aurora and handed directly to parade spectators by walkers along the route. This avoids the danger of children darting out in front of a moving vehicle. For safety and insurance reasons, this rule will be strictly enforced.


    ALL paper or printed hand-outs of any kind are STRICTLY PROHIBITED throughout the parade route and event site.


    Units that incorporate live or recorded must set the volume at a reasonable level so as not to intrude on another unit’s presentation. Any Parade Officials may request the volume to be lowered as deemed necessary.


    All Political Candidates of a designated affiliation (Democrat, Republican, etc.) will be considered as one unit.


    Due to the nature of the parades, no unit is permitted to use the parade as a platform for political, religious or social issues at any time.


    Parade units must return to their designated disbursement area before stopping and unloading.


    Alcohol is STRICTLY PROHIBITED at any City of Aurora Parade. Anyone with alcohol at the parade staging area or along parade route will have their entire unit removed from the event immediately, with assistance from APD.


    The City of Aurora reserves the right to remove any unit at any time in violation of the rules and regulations.


    As a parade participant, I/we give the City of Aurora, as parade producer, the permission to photograph members of our parade unit, record voices, reproduce voices and pictures during the event, use names, voices and pictures in advertising, publicity and promotional activities in all media now existing or hereafter created without compensation.


    It is the responsibility of the parade applicant to inform their unit’s participants and parents or guardians of the Parade Rules and Regulations prior to the event as well as ensuring their unit upholds Parade Rules and Regulations within the event site. It is also the parade applicant’s responsibility to manage and communicate with their unit participants and parents or guardians, specific Staging, Drop & Go, Event Procedures, Parade Updates and Weather Contingency or Emergency Plan Details both prior to the event as well as during the event.


    The City of Aurora's Community Events staff has the right to make modifications to any rules and regulations as they deem necessary for the safety and viewing enjoyment of the spectators.
