Winter Storm Update #6

With documented totals of 7-9” of snow thus far, the City of Aurora plow crews worked non-stop throughout the night and today on snow and ice clearing procedures. In an attempt to combat the consistently accumulating snow, city crews were assisted by contractors to maximize the cleaning efforts.

Taking full advantage of the break in snowfall, Aurora’s fleet has focused on clearing the approximately 700 miles of primary roadways today.  Currently, plow trucks are clearing the approximately 650 miles of residential roadways with additional focus on those areas that previously could not be plowed to the curb or edge because of parked cars. Motorists are reminded that parking on public streets is prohibited if there are at least two inches of snow on the ground and the road has not been cleared to edge.

Crews will continue clean-up efforts this evening and overnight.

While the National Weather Service has concluded its Winter Weather Advisory for the area, it has issued a Wind Chill Advisory that begins tonight. Wind chill temperatures can drop as low as 25 degrees below zero.
