'Subtext' opens at Aurora Public Arts Commission

Aurora, Ill. – The Aurora Public Arts Commission will host ‘Subtext: Works by Ten Photographers’ beginning Friday, March 3, through Saturday, April 15. 

‘Subtext’ encompasses a creative range of subject matter that includes night exposures of Midwestern rural landscapes, intimate family and home life scenes, intricate surreal compositions, creativity at the Burning Man event, abstract architectural elements, the beauty of horses in the western landscape, and abstract nature photography. Viewers are invited to experience their own personal interpretation of the work.

Each photographer has found his/her artistic voice, nurtured by the creative environment of the College of DuPage Photography department, either as an instructor, student, or graduate.

Photographers include Lily Mayfield, Frank Jackowiak, Terry Vitacco, Tom Phelan, Lynn Anderson, Lauren Laws, Anne Frantzen, Sarah Baranski, Becky Davis and William North.

‘Subtext’ opens with a reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, in the third-floor gallery of the David L. Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place, with an opening reception. The opening coincides with First Fridays, a monthly celebration of arts and culture with pop-up galleries, live music and much more throughout downtown Aurora.

The exhibit will be on display during regular gallery hours, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. through Saturday, April 15. Admission is free.
