Joseph E. Jones, Emergency Management Coordinator

Emergency management Coordinator Joseph Jones was born and raised in Joliet Illinois where he began his fire service career as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the East Joliet Illinois Fire Protection District at the age of 18. He entered the United State Air Force in Security and Law enforcement and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1980. Mr. Jones had served on the Montgomery and Countryside Fire Department prior to being hired by the City of DeKalb Fire Department in 1984. During his nearly 26 years he was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief / Shift Commander. He served on the hazardous materials team for 17 years and was the team leader once he became a Battalion Chief.  In September of 2009 Mr. Jones retired and started an Emergency Management /Safety consulting company. On March 4, 2014 Mr. Jones was hired by the City of Aurora to head the Emergency Management Agency.

Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Fire Department Administration and a Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University College of Engineering and Engineering Technology in Industrial Management /Safety.

Mr. Jones serves on several state and national committees including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1616) on Mass Evacuation, Sheltering, and re-entry, the All Hazard Incident Management Team Association Certification Committee, and the Northern Illinois University College of Engineering and Engineering Technology Advisory Board.
