Electronics Recycling Program

Recycling Event in St. Charles on Saturday 4/1/17

Electronics, Books, Paint & Document Shredding

The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held on Saturday 4/1/17, between 8am and 12noon, at 540 S Randall in St. Charles. The following event date is set for the second Saturday in May, 5/13/17. We will be recycling Electronics, Books, Paint and offering free confidential document shredding.

On Saturday April 1st, you can recycle ELECTRONICS like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. We unload for you! A complete list of accepted items and more information can be found here. (

Most electronic items can be dropped off for free, everything except for TVs and monitors, which have a cost.

Cost for TVs and monitors

TVs and computer monitors – both tube and flat screen – have a fee of $25 for screens under 21”(measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21” and over.

The fee may be paid online in advance or onsite with cash or card. Exact change is appreciated. The fee that you pay for screened equipment goes directly to the County’s contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a non-profit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals.

We take BOOKS of any age and condition, paperback or hardcover, for reuse and recycling.

Liquid LATEX PAINT and OIL PAINT will be accepted at this event. Paint also has a recycling fee* per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. It is $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Latex paint is non-toxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary! Oil paint is now accepted at the event, for a per can cost of $6 per gallon and $25 per 5-gallon bucket. This is for convenience only; please note that you can drop oil paint at the Naperville HHW facility for free. Cash or check only for the paint, please.

Bring your confidential DOCUMENTS in paper bags or boxes. Limit is 4 boxes. This is for residents only. No documents from businesses please. More guidelines can be found at
