200TH BIRTHDAY PARTY WILL CELEBRATE AURORA PIONEER WILLIAM TANNER

The Aurora Historical Society will celebrate this milestone with a birthday party at the Pierce Art and History Center on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5-9 pm.  The party will open a new exhibit, “The Life and Times of William A. Tanner, 1815-1892”, scheduled to run through May 9, 2015.

Mandatory Housing Class

City and police officials have announced the next round of mandatory crime-free housing classes which owners, landlords, and agents of rental and non-owner occupied residential buildings in Aurora must enroll.

Classes in English will be held Feb. 7, Mar. 21, Apr. 18, May 2.  Spanish classes will be conducted Mar. 7 & May 9.  All of the sessions will be held in the community room of the Aurora Police Department, 1200 E. Indian Trail, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Quad Co Annual Scholarship Award & Jazz Brunch

The Quad County African American Chamber of Commerce (QCAAC) is hosting the 2015 Annual Scholarship Award/Jazz Brunch to be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at the beautiful Hotel Arista in Naperville, Illinois. 

Live musical accompaniment featuring the Phil Seed Trio along with a silent auction and delicious array of food will make your afternoon memorable as scholarships are given to students declaring a major in one of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).


Tickets are $55 for members and $65 for non members.  A price break can be obtained by purchasing an entire table for the price of $500 (10 seats).

GreenTown Aurora will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N. Broadway, Aurora. Registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m., and the event concludes at 4:30 p.m. Registration is $35 and is still available at the door.

The City of Aurora, Senior Services Associates and the Aurora Township present the annual Black History Month event for senior citizens in Aurora.  The event features storytelling, music, dancing and a wonderful lesson in history and culture.  It's free and open to all seniors.

Low Cost Pet Wellness Clinic

Just Animals, a local non-profit, no-kill animal shelter, provides vaccinations, heartworm tests, discounted heartworm prevention medicine, FIV tests and micro-chipping for Aurora area pet owners. The services are available by appointment only and can be arranged by calling Just Animals at 815-830-6568 and leaving a message. Agency representatives will then call back and confirm an appointment time. More information on the clinics is available by calling Aurora Animal Control at 630-256-3630.
