JOHN JAROS TO BE HONORED FOR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE

John Jaros, Executive Director of the Aurora Historical Society, will be honored for 30 years of service at a reception on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the historical society headquarters at the Pierce Art and History Center in downtown Aurora.   The reception is from 5-8pm and is free, although donations are appreciated.  20 E. Downer Place, 60505.

Electronics Recycling Made Easy In Aurora

This year’s collection events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Customer Service Center located at 3770 McCoy Drive, Aurora.

Eligible electronics that will be collected include monitors, computers (both PCs and Macs), laptops, televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners, computer accessories (mouses, keyboards and modems), video game consoles, telephones, answering machines, cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, cameras, camcorders, servers and networking equipment, DVD players, stereos, and VCRs.  Microwaves are the only kitchen appliances accepted for recycling.

It emphasizes cooperation among property owners, tenants, and the City of Aurora to help neighborhoods fight crime and disorder. It is our belief that by working together, we can significantly reduce the negative impact crime has on our city.

Pet Supplies Adoption Event

The City of Aurora Animal Control and Care Facility has partnered with Pet Supplies Plus to hold adoption events on the third Saturday of each month. The event runs from 10am-2pm and we have adoptable animals on site. Upcoming dates are 2/15, 3/15, 4/19 and 5/17.

CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY CLASSES START

The Citizen Police Academy is a ten (10) week program designed to give the participants a working knowledge of the Aurora Police Department. It consists of a series of interactive classes held once a week, on a designated evening, generally on Tuesdays or Thursdays, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. There is no cost to anyone who enrolls. A background check will also be conducted on each applicant. Classes are held at the Aurora Police Department, 1200 East Indian Trail.

The African American Heritage Board would like to invite you to the annual dinner to be held at Plumbers & Pipefitter’s Local 501 Hall on February 21.  Doors will open at 6pm, with dinner scheduled to start at 7pm.  Jazz Band accompaniment will play before and after dinner until 9 pm.  After this, we invite you stay and enjoy the party with musical entertainment provided by an outstanding DJ.
