Parade Poster Design Deadline

The deadline to enter is today, Thursday, May 1.  Finalists will be announced on by Sunday, June 1. Entries should be mailed or hand-delivered by the deadline to Kim Granholm at Aurora Fastprint, 54 E. Electronics Recycling Made Easy In Aurora

This year’s collection events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Customer Service Center located at 3770 McCoy Drive, Aurora.

Eligible electronics that will be collected include monitors, computers (both PCs and Macs), laptops, televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners, computer accessories (mouses, keyboards and modems), video game consoles, telephones, answering machines, cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, cameras, camcorders, servers and networking equipment, DVD players, stereos, and VCRs.  Microwaves are the only kitchen appliances accepted for recycling.

The historic 1857 Tanner House will open for the season on Sunday, May 11, 2014 with a Sundays in the Parlor musicale.   The folk trio Hudson Crossing will perform their upbeat original music which features banjo and guitar.   The group will perform at 1:30pm.

Aurora annually remembers and honors all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  Come and show your appreciation and support. The pre-parade program begins at 11:15 a.m. at the Reviewing Stand in front of the David L. Pierce Art & History Center on Downer Place.  The parade begins at 12:00 pm.

COP ON TOP EVENTS

Once again this year, Aurora Police will stage “Cop on Top” events at four area Dunkin’ Donuts shops on May 30.

In exchange for a donation to Illinois Special Olympics, customers will receive a certificate for a free donut.  The fundraisers will take place from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts, 1237 N. Eola Rd.; 2380 S. Eola; 2112 W. Galena Blvd.; and 1255 N. Farnsworth Av.  A variety of Special Olympics Torch Run memorabilia will also be for sale.
